Marlin Technologies Group (MTG), we are seeing a decisive shift in how leading property developers, such as Balwin Properties, are approaching water infrastructure.
Increasingly, the focus is moving toward long-term water security, sustainability and operational resilience, and importantly, doing so without compromising on quality or user experience.
Our recent collaboration with Balwin Properties at the Thaba-Eco Village Lifestyle Estate is a strong example of how this thinking is being translated into practice.
Balwin’s vision for Thaba-Eco Village Lifestyle Estate centred on creating a high-quality, future-focused lifestyle environment. A key part of delivering on that vision is ensuring reliable access to potable water in a way that is both sustainable and commercially viable.
MTG was appointed to design and implement a solution that could meet these requirements while integrating seamlessly into the Thaba Lifestyle Centre.
The result is a fully integrated water treatment plant that enables the Thaba Lifestyle Centre to produce its own potable water from a borehole source, in full compliance with SANS 241 standards.
The system currently delivers approximately 15,000 litres of potable water per day and has been designed with scalability in mind, allowing capacity to increase as the development evolves.
From an engineering perspective, the project required a tailored approach. The source water presented elevated hardness levels, necessitating a multi-stage treatment process incorporating advanced filtration, softening, chemical dosing and final ultra-filtration.
Drawing on our experience in high-compliance environments such as healthcare, MTG designed a system that consistently delivers water quality aligned to stringent regulatory standards.
What has made this project particularly successful, however, is the alignment between Balwin and MTG. Balwin’s commitment to quality and long-term sustainability created the ideal platform for a solution that goes beyond basic compliance.
Together, we have implemented a system that not only meets current demand but is structured to perform reliably over time through built-in redundancy, ongoing monitoring and a comprehensive maintenance programme.
The commercial impact is equally significant. By reducing reliance on municipal supply, the installation is expected to achieve a return on investment in approximately 21 months, demonstrating that sustainable infrastructure can deliver meaningful financial benefits when approached strategically.
For MTG, this project reflects the value of working with partners who are willing to invest in forward-thinking infrastructure. For Balwin Properties, it reinforces their position as a leading property developer focused on delivering resilient, future-ready living environments.
As water challenges continue to shape the South African landscape, collaborations of this nature are becoming increasingly important.
The Thaba-Eco Village Lifestyle Estate project stands as a practical example of what can be achieved when strong vision is matched with the right technical expertise, delivering a solution that is reliable, scalable and built for the future.
