Delivering Sustainable Water Security for Education
In 2023, St Alban’s College partnered with Marlin Technologies Group (MTG) to develop a comprehensive water treatment solution capable of meeting the daily water demands of both the school and boarding facilities.
The objective was to reduce reliance on municipal water while ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality potable water that complies with SANS 241 drinking water standards.
Following a detailed assessment of the site’s borehole water quality and consumption requirements, MTG designed and installed a fully automated water treatment plant tailored to the College’s needs.
About the Water Treatment System
The treatment plant was designed based on comprehensive water analysis and borehole yield assessments to maximise the use of available groundwater resources while maintaining excellent water quality.
System Features
- Hydrogen peroxide dosing for oxidation and water conditioning
- Multi-stage media filtration for the removal of suspended solids and impurities
- Micron filtration for enhanced water polishing
- Water softening system to reduce hardness and protect infrastructure
- Chlorine dosing for disinfection and bacteria control
- pH correction and balancing system
- UV sterilisation for final disinfection and additional microbiological protection
- Fully automated control and monitoring system
As part of the project scope, MTG also completed the supporting infrastructure required for the treatment plant, including:
- Construction of reinforced concrete foundations
- Installation of a prefabricated treatment plant housing unit
- Installation of a 240,000-litre bulk water storage tank
To ensure ongoing compliance and operational excellence, MTG conducts monthly water quality testing and monitoring.
